Vrisitsa beach, from Hora Gialia beach
By accident I found the old donkey path down to Mikros Mourtias. The water was murky from soil that had been washed down by heavy rain, but it was a peaceful place to sunbathe for the afternoon. Walked back up to Hora, then found the old path back to Patitiri, which was better than walking on the new road.

Mon 24th: Took a boat trip to Kyra Panaghia island. We went round the monastery, which was quite interesting, then instead of taking us round to the beach on the other side of the island, they staged a 'rescue' of a crew

member who had supposedly run out of petrol in an inflatable. We then went into a bay in Peristera island and had lunch on the boat before returning, in a gale, to Patitiri. Why the rescue? Did they know the weather would change? Was there some other reason they didn't want to take us to the beach on Panaghia? Most mysterious.

Tue 25th: Cold and cloudy start to the day, so had a long walk to Steni Vala, taking the old paths where possible. Had lunch there, then walked to Leftos Gialos for a swim.

The water was freezing, but the beach is beautiful, with white pebbles and set in a deep bay. Walked back to base for tea and baklava.

Wed 26th: Hired a mountain bike in Votsi (€5 for the day). Cycled to Kokinocastro beach to swim and sunbathe. Went on to Steni Vala for a drink, then to Ag. Dimitriou. The beach there was a beautiful sweep of white pebbles. Swam and sunbathed. The bike had a puncture by then, so pushed it back to Steni Vala, bought a phonecard and rang the hire shop.

They collected me and the bike and brought us back to Votsi. Was relieved to find a nail in the tyre as I thought I'd mistreated the bike. Had dinner with Madeline, Julie and Dave. Stewed lamb with wine, brandy and ouzo.

Thu 27th: Walked to Vithisma and sunbathed with the seal all morning, occasionally snorting, grunting and rolling over. Inevitably some Italians arrived and frightened the seal away. I sat under a pine tree for a while, then walked back to a narrow track that I'd seen some people go down on Saturday.
