Vithisma beach Vithisma beach
As expected, it led to a small cove with a pebble beach and rocks at either side. Swam from the rocks as the beach was occupied initially. Later had the bay to myself. Returned to base for tea and baklava.

Fri 28th: Tried to follow a walk listed in the book 'Alonissos on foot'. It was very hard going. The footpaths to Mega Nero spring were overgrown, then I took the wrong path to Agii Anargii church and had to walk back. Lots of new roads lead to newly built villas, which were very confusing. Walked down a very steep ravine to Megali Ammos.

If it had been the wrong ravine I'd have been in big trouble. It was OK and I reached the beach of Megali Ammos eventually. Snorkelled in very clear water and sunbathed on the white pebble beach. There was nobody else there. Returned on the dirt-track road. Meat balls and white beans for dinner.

Sat 29th: Hired the same mountain bike for 4 days. Went to Chrisi Milia beach, which is said to be the 'best', but only because it is sandy. There were a lot of people there - about eight.

The sun was hot, but there was a stiff breeze coming off the sea. Went over to Tzortzi Gialos which was windy and had a lot of dried seaweed. Returned to Patitiri for omelette lunch, intending to visit the seal exhibition. It is closed on Saturdays. Cycled down to Vithisma, where it was baking hot on the beach. Returned via Faros, a small beach with a good view of Patitiri harbour.

Sun 30th: Cycled to the harbour for breakfast, then went to Leftos Gialos, the best white pebble beach.

It was cloudy all morning and the beach was almost deserted. The sun came out in the afternoon and I swam and sunbathed until about 5pm. There were still only half a dozen people on the beach. Had a drink in the taverna before cycling back. It took about 40 minutes each way. After dinner there was a display of traditional dancing on the quayside.

Mon 31st: Cycled to Ag. Dimitriou. It took about an hour and a half. Bright sunshine but a bit windy. Sunbathed all morning and swam in very clear cold water.
