Goubet el Kharb, the Devil's Cauldron.
Goubet el Kharb. Keyif moored near Devil's Island, an ancient crater.
Drove on through volcanic landscape to the Bay of Goubet where we rejoined the boat. The transfer on the dinghy was rough and wet. Camille has been worrying about my back all day, but it has been fine. After dinner I participated in some fishing, but fortunately didn't catch anything. A two-foot tuna was caught later. Had a better night.

Tue 9th: After breakfast returned to the beach by dinghy and took the 4WD vehicles across the lava fields. Then walked to L'Ardoukoba volcano. There were spectacular views over Lake Assal, the salt pans and lava floes. Walked to a lava 'bubble' that had collapsed, leaving a hollow tunnel. Returned to the beach where there was a tiny baby antelope which appeared to be someone's pet.

Arrival at L'Ardoukoba.
On the way to the volcano we had seen several groups of antelope. They look very like impala, but may not be. After lunch back on the boat, we went to Lake Assal and walked out over the salt pan. Photographed people collecting salt. Bought some rocks from the 'lonely Afar boy' - there were actually about a dozen souvenir salesmen. Back on board, we sailed halfway to Arta Beach before mooring for the night.
