Yabello Hotel |
| Fri 20th: Had a walk around Yabello and took photos of cattle in the main street and the shops that appeared to have nothing to sell. Drove to Agere Maryam for drinks at a hotel, then on to another hotel at Dila for lunch, which was traditional Ethiopian food. I had a spicy 'salad sandwich'. Went on through lush hilly countryside on a potholed tarmac road with donkeys, cattle, sheep and goats wandering across all the time. Most of the way, children waved and smiled as we passed. Arrived at Lake Awasa about 3:30 and walked along the shore. |

There were fish eagles, Egyptian geese, African jacanas, malachite kingfishers and many other birds on the lake. Children were fishing well out into the lake in shallow water and some were riding out on bicycles. Drove on to Shashemene, then down a dirt-track road to Wondo Genet. Swam in the hot springs pools with Geoff, James and the drivers. Remained in the water for nearly two hours. Had a good dinner in the hotel. |
