Hot springs pool at Wondo Genet |

Hornbill |
| Sat 21st: Walked to the hot springs before breakfast and watched hornbills in the trees in the hotel grounds. After breakfast we set off slowly down the wet dirt-track road back to Shashemene. There were lots of ponies and traps, laden mules, and laden women on the road. Drove for several hours on a good tarmac road through farmland, heading back to Addis Ababa. Stopped for drinks and cake at about 11:30. On reaching Addis, we were taken to a coffee shop where some of the group bought bags of coffee to take home. Went on to the Ghion Hotel. Took a taxi, with Barry and Geoff, to the Ethnographical Museum and looked at |

tribal artefacts, as well as Emperor Haile Selassie's bedroom and bathroom. Returned to the Ghion and had an omelette sandwich. At 7:30 we were taken to an Ethiopian restaurant for injara and wat, which was dreadful. It's evidently one acquired taste that I'm not going to acquire. The music and dancing were interesting though, with the dancers doing bizarre shoulder wriggling. Continued to the airport, to find the flight delayed until 03:00. We took off nearly 3 hours late, but arrived at Heathrow only an hour late. |
