On the way back we stopped to look at a huge lava tunnel, entering it at a collapsed section. The main road crosses it just a few yards from the hole! Returned to the town and wandered round souvenir shops before returning to the boat for lunch. After lunch we went back to the island, landing further along the coast. We then walked to the Charles Darwin Research Station. We saw baby tortoises being reared for re-introduction to several of the islands. Also saw several adult tortoises of different island races. They are also attempting to breed land iguanas.

Walked back to the town and bought a hat. Returned to the boat for dinner. Billy brought out his guitar and sang a few songs. He was quite good. Sailed to Floreana.

Tue 31st: Took the dinghy to Punta Cormorant and walked to a lagoon where there were about 30 pink flamingos. Went on to a beautiful white sand beach which is a nesting ground for green turtles. Then returned to the boat for a drink and set off again to snorkel round the 'Devil's Crown'. Saw two white-tip reef sharks and a group of eagle rays.
