The Caldera, Santorini Thira
Thu 6th Sept: Got up at 02:30, had breakfast and drove to Manchester Airport. Check in was very crowded and took ages. The flight was tedious and I only got coffee and biscuits, so was starving when I arrived at Santorini at 3pm. Was met as arranged and taken to the Nissos Thira Hotel, which seems OK. Walked into town and had a large 'Greek' omelette. Walked along the caldera paths through Thira and Imerovigli. Had dinner in the restaurant near the museum and photographed convoys of mules returning to their stables for the night.

Fri 7th: Had breakfast in the hotel, then took the bus to Oia. The bus was packed and I spent the journey standing in the stairwell. At least I was first off when we arrived. Oia was full of American tourists with labels indicating their batch number, so I didn't stay long before walking out through Tholos and down to Baxedes beach. Swam and sunbathed for a while, then walked along the beach to Koulombos, which was better beach but there were more people. Spent the afternoon there, then walked back up a rough track to Foinikia which was a lovely traditional village with not a tourist in sight.
