Footpath to Kastro-Hora Kastro-Hora, Sikinos
Walked back along the main road to Thira, which took three hours. Had dinner at the café up the road. We are old friends now, so I had to shake hands with all the staff when I arrived and I got a free ouzo at the end of my meal.

Sat 8th: Took the bus to Kamari, which is no longer a village but a small town. Walked up the mountainside to Ancient Thira, then down a rough track on the other side to Perissa. The place was bad before, but is now hideous. I walked for an hour past beach bars and umbrellas.

All of Perivolos beach has been ruined by the extension of Perissa sprawl. Eventually I got clear of the umbrellas and found some quiet beach near Exomytis. Swam and sunbathed for a while, then walked on to Vlychada. The beach here was much better, with a long stretch free of umbrellas, just hot black sand and pumice. The sea was rough with large breakers making swimming out difficult, but good fun. Got the 4:30 bus back to Thira.
