Katergo beach Fish off Katergo island
Hoped to take the mule path to Kastro-Hora but it was too overgrown, so I had to turn back. Walked over to Ayios Pandelimonas. There were four other people on the beach when I arrived, but they left during the afternoon and I had the beach to myself for a while. It was very hot during the early part of the afternoon and the little available shade was occupied. Sunbathed and snorkelled until about 5pm, then walked back to Alopronia. Had dinner of meatballs and chips in the main village taverna.

Thu 13th: Took the bus to Episkopi where an ancient temple has been converted into a seventh century church. Wandered round and took some photos. The French people that had been on the bus ignored the ruins and set off down a footpath. I then followed, hoping it might lead to a beach. I reached a junction in the path and a French couple were sitting there studying a map. Theirs was better than mine. They were taking the route that led to Ayios Pandelimonas and I went the other way that supposedly led to a small beach at Ayios Ioannis. I crossed a col and descended into a valley. The path led down one side to a deserted farm with a threshing floor.
It seemed to be on a cliff edge, with no path down onto the valley floor. Returned to the head of the valley and found a path round to the other side. Eventually it became so overgrown with spiny plants that I had to accept defeat and return to Episkopi. Walked back along the tarmac road to Kastro-Hora and had a drink and honey-soaked shredded wheat. Began to walk down to Alopronia but was given a lift in a pick-up truck. The driver didn't speak a word of English. We were there in five minutes and I went to the village beach to swim and sunbathe until the sun went down.

Fri 14th: Walked to Ayios Pandelimonas to swim, snorkel and sunbathe all day. Three couples arrived, swam and left again, so I had the beach to myself for most of the day. Saw a cormorant fishing in the bay. Had to leave at 3pm to pack and shower before vacating my room at 5pm. Had a long 'hanging around' period, not able to do very much, before dinner which I had to spin out as long as possible. Walked to the port for the 21:25 ferry which was actually two hours late. Got to Folegandros by 00:30 and the hotel by 01:00.
