I was amazed to find a party of schoolchildren there. The teacher lined them up for a group photo and they were amused when I took one too. There was a superb view of Megève with the mountains behind, with Mont Blanc gleaming white in the sunshine. Walked on for another hour to Petit Croisse Baulet at 2009 metres. From here I could see Combloux and Sallanches, and the motorway to Geneva. Walked back to the Col du Jaillet, then through the woods for a while before coming to a large car park. From here I followed the road all the way down to Megève.

There has been a bit of cloud, but the sun has shone pretty much all day.

Wed 23rd: Another leisurely start to the day. Walked up the road behind the apartment which leads to farm tracks, woodlands and Lake Javen. The lake is in a superb setting, surrounded by pine woods, meadows and mountains. The black 'scum' around the edge proved to be millions of tadpoles, which seemed to be thriving. Walked up to Pre Rosset, then found the path to the Col du Véry. I had expected a steep ascent onto the ridge, but instead it is a long track leading across
