Day 1: Daan Viljoen National Park - a peaceful place to start our trip, with lots of exotic birds, baboons, wildebeest and kudu wandering around. Our first camp. It was cold at night and as my rucksack was lost I had to scrounge a warm jacket and a sleeping bag.
Sat 14th Sept: Took a midday flight from Manchester to Heathrow. The rucksack did not appear on the carousel, so had to report it lost. They took all the details and gave me some toiletries and a tee shirt, then I went to Terminal 3 for the flight to Windhoek.

Sun 15th: Arrived at Windhoek and there was still no rucksack. The lost luggage office said it would arrive from Johannesburg at 1pm. Met Ralph, the tour leader and we drove into Windhoek. Had a coffee with some of the group.

Day 2: We stopped on the way to Sesriem to look at a sociable weavers nest.
Continued to Daan Viljoen National Park and walked by the lakeside before lunch. Ralph rang the airport, but my rucksack had not arrived. Had a shower and shave, then another lazy walk by the lakeside. There are lost of interesting birds here. Have also seen lots of baboons, wildebeest and a kudu bull. Saw a lizard on the rocks with a black body and yellow spotted head - it bobbed up and down like an agama lizard. Dinner was excellent. The 'appetisers' included biltong - dried meat.
The sociable weavers nest. The camp site at Sesriem. My rucksack arrived on the second day here. It flew via Johannesburg then took an overnight courier from Windhoek.
A scorpion wandered though our camp on the first evening. This lizard could bury itself in the sand at the first sign of danger.
Day 3: We got up before dawn to see the sun rise over the Sossusvlei dunes...
