The Sultan's palace, Muscat

The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is an amazing building

Built from 300,000 tonnes of Indian sandstone

The main minaret is 90 metres tall

The central chandelier is the largest in the world, 14 metres high and weighing 8.5 tons. The prayer carpet is the largest single piece carpet in the world and the world's largest hand-woven carpet. It took four years to produce, contains 1700 million knots and weighs 28 tons.

Leaving Muscat, we drove onto a beach...

...for a picnic lunch

Wadi Shab, which once had permanent water and was lined with lush gardens, is now mostly dry

It still has some lovely pools
