Cheetah spots blend into the grass
As the family crossed the road, the adult suddenly sprinted towards a group of Thompson's gazelles. Within seconds she had one, but a hyena that we had seen loping past earlier was there too and grabbed the kill. The cheetah backed off and returned to another termite mound where the hungry cubs joined her. The hyena ate the kill. A few minutes later six vultures arrived but there was nothing left for them and they soon left. We moved on and saw eland, zebras, topi, warthogs, ostriches, and a flock of green and red love-birds.

Flamingos in Ngorongoro Crater
Returning to the river, we saw the leopard sleeping in a tree and further on was a big pride of lions. I counted 14 but with others hidden in the bushes, Emanuel reckoned there were over 20. On the way back to camp we passed a huge male lion out on the plain. Had lunch and a shower. Set off again in the afternoon and had a long drive to a hippo pool which was full of crocodiles, some of them enormous. Emanuel said we could swim if we wanted to! Nobody did.
